PAKISTAN’S MILITARY GOVERNMENT

The details and moment to moment account of the event that happened on 12th October was flashed by the world media. What we have learnt is that due to the unity and discipline of our armed forces the country has been once again saved from total catastrophe. But this is not enough. For a bright future of Pakistan we need to consider the problems with more thought and care. Pakistan is not a barren country nor its mothers have refused to bear children endowed with intellect and good brains. We have produced some most intelligent people in the world. But the sad part of the story is that Pakistan?s intelligent and enlightened brains prefer to leave Pakistan and migrate to foreign lands and they are leaving the country after selling legally or illegally all their assets.. All of them whether young or old think that their salvation lies in getting out of Pakistan. I myself belong to Pakistan?s capital and have left my country to settle in Japan. Here I have my Japanese wife and children. I have my own business. I am neither a politician nor I have any adventurous pretensions. I am working here in peace and tranquillity. I can not give up my love for Pakistan because that is my country. I visit Pakistan every year and bring with me carpets and other handicrafts worth million of dollars. I maintain a show room here where I sell all this. I keep an account of all my financial dealings. The tax authorities check my accounts but they do not want to snatch away all that is mine from me nor are there any vagabonds who make life miserable for me.
I am a Japanese citizen. When ever there are elections in this country all the big leaders make it a point to talk to me as a respectable citizen. I interview them on television and write columns and analysis about I praise the good things they had done and criticise the matters that need criticism. People discuss and comment on my writings with me but no one comes with a Klashnikov to scare me and my children. I love my country immensely. I am prepared to sacrifice my life for sake of my country but I hate the selfish politicians and so-called political activists who loot the national exchequer. The money minded capitalists. of Pakistan have made the country a hell for common hard working citizens. That is the reason that today every educated young man of Pakistan is leaving the country after selling his property and jewellery of his mother or sister. His sole aim is to live and work hard at a place where there is rule of law and there is respect for his labour so that he could send money for the subsistence of his family. Why diligent peoples like us do not find any opportunity in our country to earn our livelihood with respect? Why are we denigrated and considered low in our country? Thousands of Pakistani citizens are living a respectable and prosperous life outside Pakistan. They love Pakistan but do not want to go back to their country. Even the thought of going back turns them pale because here there is risk for life on every step. They are afraid of getting kidnapped for ransom. They are scared of robbers and dacoits. In a big city like Lahore a man kidnaps and kills more than hundred children or smuggles them out of Pakistan but our police department had no clue of that man. Why is it so? Why only military government could solve the mystery of these killings that made headlines in the world media. What sort of work was done by the police during political governments that they were not oblivious of the crimes being perpetrated in society? These are not ordinary incidents. My hats are off to the courage of the citizens of Lahore who live amidst such police and criminals. Those who have left the country and settled abroad have got used to a regular law abiding life. They do not have courage to come back and confront their lives with such unknown and unexpected dangers.
Here I again refer to the dream of Allama Iqbal who had dreamt to cleanse the whole world of such things rather than only Pakistan. Qaid-eAzam Muhammad Ali Jinnah struggled hard to convert this dream into reality and in order to maintain this reality in tact devised a system for the country that he founded. The system was meant for the development and security of the country. He kept his person free of such aberrations that his personality is quoted as an example. Whatever property or assets he has in Pakistan today were purchased out of his own income. He neither doled out any jobs nor gave any unnecessary concession to his brothers or nephews. I read in a book that Jinnah had a brother who was a lawyer. He asked Jinnah to make him either the attorney general of Pakistan or allow him to practise law in Pakistan. Qaid-e-Azam replied to his brother,? Pakistani people have not made me their leader and governor general so that I should appoint my relatives to important posts. If you will practise in Pakistan all the judges will have a soft corner for you that you are brother of Jinnah. You are a prominent lawyer. You will be able to do better in Bombay than in Karachi. Why do you want to create problems for me by living in Pakistan?. Now this brother of Jinnah remained in Bombay, rose to be a prominent lawyer and never came to Pakistan nor his children came to Pakistan. Qaid-e-Azam?s character was such exemplary but our other rulers whosoever came into power looted the national exchequer and appointed his relatives and friends on important positions so that he could prolong his tenure in power. I am sorry to say that the present predicament of Pakistan is not due to its enemies but due to its own friends.
